Biashara Street

    Vendor Biography

Growing up, I lived and traveled in many countries because my father worked for an international human rights agency. As a result, our house always had many books and vigorous discussions of social justice, philanthropy, and more. Through these conversations and early exposure to diverse cultures, my parent’s gift was an appreciation of the world around me and a feeling of responsibility to care for and respect it.

With that sense of responsibility, I founded BiasharaStreet.com, an online marketplace offering products and goods that limit their harm to humans, animals, and the Planet. BiasharaStreet.com would also be a place, like my childhood home, where we can talk about sustainable, ethical, and healthy living. The latter would be my gift to the future.

I named BiasharaStreet.com for the colorful, bustling marketplaces in Nairobi, Kenya, which I visited as a young girl. Biashara (pronounced “Bee-ah-sha-ra”) means business, trade, or commerce in Swahili, an official language of East Africa.

On Biashara Street, you will find not only a diversity of ethical and sustainable products from around the world – good for you, good for the people who make them, and good for the Planet., but vendors who subscribe to the same values as us which you can find on the menu tab.

In line with these values, Biashara Street is participating in 1% for the Planet, giving 1% of our sales back to the environment.
